BIOGRAPHY
Originally from New Zealand, Robin has worked as a DOP and Director in London, Europe and Australia for over 10 years.
He is considered one of the most intuitive drama and comedy directors in the Asia Pacific region, whose work is consistently funny, honest and visually engaging.
Robin is fascinated by the character quirks that make up different human personalities, and this shines through in his work. He has a knack for casting actors who deliver utterly real performances, and has a flair for comedic pace and dialogue.
He is the face behind some of New Zealand’s best-loved commercials, such as the powerfully hard-hitting ‘Maate’ commercial for Land Transport New Zealand, and the hilarious Coruba Rum TVC, which featured on AdForum as one of its top five most-viewed ads worldwide.
Like many New Zealanders, Robin has a sense for the silly and absurd, and knows how to bring the best out of every script. As a DOP and director he frames his shots beautifully, which adds a layer of depth and complexity to his work.
Robin was commended as Best Director at ADFEST in 2005, and was profiled in Shots magazine’s special report on New Zealand & Australia.
He loves to travel, and works regularly with agencies in New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand for brands including Lift Plus, McDonalds and AA Travel.
His short film, ‘The Platform’, tells the story of a train that never arrives, and has been awarded at film festivals in Japan, Germany, Australia and Spain, where it picked up a Silver Spike Award at the Valladolid International Film Festival.
